Katie Caruthers was one of three players with two goals in McCracken County’s 10-0 win over Ballard Memorial in a First District tournament semifinal at Jetton Field.

The No. 1-seed Lady Mustangs (13-9) will play the winner of today’s Paducah Tilghman-St. Mary semifinal.

“We connected passes really well,” Caruthers said. “On almost every goal, it wasn’t just one person dribbling up from the middle. It was connecting three or four passes to score every goal, and that was good.”

The Lady Bombers started the match with eight players and a goalkeeper, with Grace Wilson out after a red card issued last week against Mayfield.

“I have a lot of respect for those guys,” McCracken County coach Bryan Hantak said. “They never quit. I probably have the most respect for that team out of any team in our district, and that’s not putting down anybody else, the way they come out, nothing but respect for them.”

For Ballard Memorial coach Jonathan Steele, who completed his first year with the team, the phrase he used to describe the season for the Lady Bombers (3-12-1, 0-7 district) was “a struggle.”

Jasmine Perry opened the scoring three minutes in. Goals from Sophie Cook (6th, 10th) and Olivia Bogaczyk (8th, 12th) quickly made it 5-0.

Denjaja Robinson came off for the Lady Bombers in the 17th minute, leaving them with seven players and the keeper. She came back into the game in the 33rd.

Lindsay Campbell made it a six-goal game in the 22nd. Eight minutes later, Lexi Nickal made it 7-0.

Haily Hogan’s kick off the crossbar made it 8-0 in the 34th.

Hantak said it was important for his team to treat the win as the next step, cautioning against getting too ahead of things.

“It’s building,” Hantak said. “In the playoffs, we’re still building. We’re building for now Thursday, and hopefully after Thursday we’re building for next week (regional tournament). For us, it’s still a process.”

Makayla Dowdy made eight saves for Ballard Memorial.
