Men's Soccer - McCracken sweeps Ballard Memorial to advance to district finals
10/11/2017 11:05 AM

Jaxon Allard’s first-half hat trick was more than enough for McCracken County, which beat Ballard Memorial 10-0 on Monday in a First District soccer semifinal at Jetton Field.

The Mustangs (18-2) will play the winner of tonight’s semifinal between Paducah Tilghman and St. Mary for the district title.

“It was great,” Allard said. “I really like going forward instead of playing defensive (midfield). It was a good win.”

Allard booted a heat-seeking, right-footed shot to make it 1-0 four minutes in. Kevin Pastor’s second-chance goal in front of the net made it 2-0 in the 10th minute.

Allard’s second, from point-blank range, made it 3-0 in the 14th. Luis Lopez scored a minute later to make it 4-0.

In the 20th, Allard headed in the direct kick from Owen Lacy, making it 5-0.

Jamal Perry made it 6-0 in the 27th minute. Backup goalkeeper Gavin O’Donley – playing forward – scored to make it 8-0 in the 37th, which carried into the half.

Andrew Windhorst’s first goal of the year made it 9-0 in the 51st, before Johnny Kirkpatrick ended the game two minutes later.

McCracken County coach Michael Wiersma’s expectations for Thursday’s district championship game are simple.

“We just need to keep working on moving the ball and taking care of business in the back,” he said.

Mustangs keeper and team captain Trevor Massa offered some offensive tips from his vantage point. He was lifted for O’Donley in the 25th.

“Mainly, we just need to make sure our wings go wide,” Massa said. “That was the problem against Henderson County (2-0 loss on Thursday). Our wings didn’t get wide enough and distribute the ball to the forwards’ and strikers’ feet.”

The Bombers finish their season 0-17.
