Men's Basketball - Mustang Madness roundup: Sivills wins at line for Mustangs
1/7/2019 8:57 AM

McCracken County junior forward Jackson Sivills on Saturday found himself again shooting free-throws with a game on the line.

And again, Sivills came through.

After drawing a foul while going up for a second-chance layup with 0.8 seconds left in the extra period, he made both shots, sending the Mustangs to a 66-64 win over Elliott County at Mustang Madness inside the Strawberry Hills Pharmacy Arena.

“We watched film (from Thursday night’s 52-50 win over Christian County) yesterday, and everyone knew they played bad,” said Sivills, who finished with 29 points. “We knew what we had to fix and tonight we did that. We came out tonight and it was a tough win. To beat great teams, you’ve got to be tough.”

Noah Dumas propelled the Mustangs in the first half, with 12 of his 21 points coming in the first 16 minutes.

Still, the Mustangs had their work cut out for them with the Tigers.

“They were killing us off the dribble,” Sivills said. “From the three-point line, too. They’re a really good team. We knew we had to come out and lock them down in the second half. We held them 22 points under their season average.”

McCracken continues its stretch of challenging games this week – hosting Graves County (Tuesday) and Paducah Tilghman (Friday).

“I don’t remember the last time we had an easy game,” McCracken County coach Burlin Brower said. “We went to Florida (over Christmas) and all three of those games were extremely tough. Right before Florida, we played Bowling Green and Marshall County. This is five games in a row that if you don’t play good basketball, you lose all of them. You can play good and lose all five.”
