Baseball - Spillane's clutch hit gives Mustangs winning edge
4/11/2019 8:19 AM

C.J. Spillane's run-scoring single in the sixth inning broke a 1-1 tie as McCracken County went on to edge Union City, Tennessee, 2-1 in high school baseball Wednesday.

Grant Godwin led off the sixth with a single to center. He advanced to second off a sacrifice bunt from Grant Davis. After Ben Higdon struck out, Kiael Waldon was hit by a pitch. Spillane then drilled the first pitch he saw into left field to bring Godwin in.

Both teams scored their only other runs in the third inning. The Golden Tornado got their lone run when Dawson Searcy grounded out to Mustang pitcher Jacob Ehling with runners on second and third. McCracken tied it when Elijah Wheat scored on Dylan Schneider's single.
