Men's Basketball - Dumas propels Mustangs to win at Graves County

McCracken County forward Jackson Sivills gets a lot of attention for his accolades on the basketball court, and deservedly so.

On Tuesday, though, in the Mustangs’ 77-49 win over Graves County at the Eagles’ Nest, it was another Mustang senior who led his team in scoring.

McCracken point guard Noah Dumas had a game-high 24 points, including a perfect 7-of-7 from inside the 3-point line, to go with his three treys.

“We figured they were going to run some type of zone on Jack,” Dumas said. “We had a game plan for that and we executed it.”

Sivills did still take advantage of his scoring opportunities, adding 20 points, with his own 7-for-7 night — at the free-throw line.

For Graves, which graduated most of its offensive production from a season ago, there’s still some growing pains.

“We just go through dry spells where we struggle to put the ball in the hole,” Graves County coach Josh Frick said. “We got beat by a team that’s just better than us right now.”

One bright side for the Eagles is sophomore Mason Grant, who had a team-high 19 points.

“I think he had a different mindset tonight, that he was going to be a little more aggressive and felt like he had a good matchup to be able to do that,” Frick said. “Mason was a kid who wasn’t on the varsity roster last year and didn’t get to play this summer because he had mono. He’s had 15 games here to learn and to continue to grow. It’s good to see him come out and be aggressive.”
